Kirje Mum´sin ystäville/ a letter for MUM`s friends

Dear people. This is a long letter, but please read. Its time to open up a couple of things. 

Mum`s received sad news last year in October 2011: Mielie needs to be disclosed because of lack of sales, that`s what we were told. As a business, they had worked all the time with making no profit, but loss, that`s what we were told. Payments for handicrafters were fair but the cost was too low. Mielie was forced to sell the machinery and give up the rented production workshop. There was no place to gather, nor finish the products no more.  

Mum`s suggested we could buy them new machines, but its not easy to built everything up from the beginning, nor to make profitable business with most consideration on people`s well-being. We have thought of ways to make it work again. This week I received a message saying they could give a try to make bags again. The cost is much higher than before. There are now six workers making the bags.  It means we cannot produce large amounts at this stage. But we will see what happens. Luckily Mum`s has got lovely retailers who understand the situation. 

" Everything is relative. For sure the bags are sold less, but the arguments because it has happened are the reason why people want the bag. It is a counterattack towards consumption culture, which takes its profits by exploitation. Mum´s-bag is suitable for every occasion as well inherited by our daughters when we no longer exist". Tänä vuonna TDW pidetään Turun messukeskuksessa. Samaan aikaan taide-ja antiikkimessut ja käsityömessut. Avoinna tänään klo 17 asti ja vielä ehtii!

Mum`s is so happy and proud to present our new range of handmade toys. Material is non-allergenic Peruvian Pima-Cotton. Fair trade and sweet. All nicely packed of course. Range is born in the hands of Bolivian women who may work from home and take care of their children. That`s how Mum`s works my friends.

Mum`silla on ilo esitellä ROBOTOS! Sarja bolivialaisten naisten käsissä syntyneitä robottileluja, jotka Mum´s on suunnitellut Suomessa. Yhteistyömme Etelä-Amerikassa on vasta aluillaan, mutta hyvältä näyttää. Materiaalina käytämme  allergisoimatonta luonnonmateriaalia, perulaista puuvillaa. Mum`sin periaatteiden mukaan työtä voidaan tehdä kotona ja pajalle kokoonnutaan kerran viikossa. Tämä on hienoa hyvät ihmiset, todella hienoa ja jännittävää. Pieni Mum`s reissaa maailmassa, jatkaa työtään eteläafrikkalaisten ja bolivialaisten naisten kanssa kehitysmaissa. Mum`s jatkaa tästä ja toivottaa teidät tervetulleeksi jatkamaan matkaa kanssamme!
